Maryland's Juan Dixon and Lonny Baxter led Maryland to their first national title in a hard fought battle against Indiana. The duo's combined 33 points and 19 rebounds was enough to beat the Hoosiers 64-52 and deny the storied program a sixth national title. The Terrapins’ road to becoming national champs was tough to say the least, as it included wins over five national championship programs -- Wisconsin, Kentucky, Connecticut, Kansas and Indiana. Dixon was later named the tournament's most outstanding while Maryland coach Gary Williams became the first alumnus to coach his school to the national title since 1974.
