Maryland's Juan Dixon and Lonny Baxter led Maryland to their first national title in a hard fought battle against Indiana. The duo's combined 33 points and 19 rebounds was enough to beat the Hoosiers 64-52 and deny the storied program a sixth national title. The Terrapins’ road to becoming national champs was tough to say the least, as it included wins over five national championship programs -- Wisconsin, Kentucky, Connecticut, Kansas and Indiana. Dixon was later named the tournament's most outstanding while Maryland coach Gary Williams became the first alumnus to coach his school to the national title since 1974.

With the game tied at 60, and a little more than three minutes left on the clock, the Hoosiers picked up the pace and went on a 13-4 run to beat the Oklahoma Sooners 73-64. Jeff Newton and his career-high 19 points helped carry the Hoosiers to the win and their first bid for a national championship since 1987.

Juan Dixon's 33 points helped carry the Terrapins to a 97-88 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks. Although all five of Kansas' starters shot in the double figures, including 21 points from Nick Collision, Maryland held off a late Kansas rally and took one step closer to becoming the 2002 National Champions.

The Terps outlasted UConn 90-82 with strong closing performances by Juan Dixon and Lonny Baxter. Dixon, Maryland's all-time leading scorer, ended the night with 27 points and Baxter finished with 29 points and nine rebounds. Maryland went on to run the table in the next two rounds and ultimately become the 2002 national champions.

The nation's highest scoring team rolled past the Oregon Ducks in a decisive 104-84 win that paved the way to a Final Four matchup against Maryland. Oregon's Frederick Jones tried to keep this shootout closer by scoring an impressive 32 points, however Nick Collision and Drew Gooden combined forces for a total of 43 points as the Jayhawks became the first team to breach the century mark in a regional final since UCLA did it back in 1995.

The Hoosiers nailed an amazing 15 3-pointers as they held on to beat a stubborn Kent State 81-69 and advance to the Final Four for the first time since 1992. The Hoosiers' ensuing win over Oklahoma led to their first appearance in a title game since 1987. Future NFL star Antonio Gates had a great night with 22 points as the Golden Flashes' ended their amazing 21-game winning streak.

The Sooners advanced to their first national semifinal berth since 1988 with an 81-75 victory over 12th-seeded Missouri. Hollis Price ended the night with 18 points, including two free throws in the last six seconds of the game that sealed the Sooners' 12th straight victory. Missouri's Rickey Paulding and Kareem Rush kept the game close by shooting a combined total of 40 points, however, Oklahoma ultimately earned a spot in the Final Four where they took on Indiana.

UConn won their 12th straight as the Huskies beat the Southern Illinois Salukis 71-59, thus earning it's first berth in the Elite Eight since they won the national championship in 1999. The Huskies' march towards another title was cut short when Maryland knocked them out of the tournament the very next day. Southern Illinois closed out their season with a school-record 28 wins.

Kansas battled Illinois the entire game to exact revenge against the team that knocked them out of the tournament a year ago. Kansas emerged as victors in a 73-69 win against the Fighting Illini. The win propelled them into the Elite Eight where they shot the lights out in a 104-86 victory over Oregon.

Frederick Jones' slow night ended when he made the game winning layup in the final 2.8 seconds of the game. After trailing by 13 at the half, Oregon came back and barely edged out Texas 72-70. Luke Jackson and Luke Ridnour led Oregon's offense with 25 and 20 points respectively. The Ducks advanced to the Elite Eight where they lost to Kansas 104-86.

Trailing by 17 points going into the second half, the Indiana Hoosiers rallied to upset top-seeded Duke 74-73 in a game decided in the final seconds. Jared Jeffries' 24 points and 15 rebounds helped the Hoosiers overcome a season-high 23 turnovers and beat the defending champs on their way to the title game against Maryland.

Oklahoma's aggressive defense and potent offense allowed the No.2 seed Sooners to take over the second half and beat the Arizona Wildcats 88-67. In addition to cutting the Wildcats' shooting percentage nearly in half, Hollis Price's 26 points and Aaron McGhee's 21 helped the Sooners overcome a sluggish first half and earn a berth in the Elite Eight.

12th-seeded Missouri took out UCLA after a comeback effort midway through the second half when Kareem Rush and Clarence Gilbert hit a flurry of 3-pointers to put the Tigers ahead for good. Gilbert finished with 23 points and Rush with 20, as the Tigers set their sights on the Elite Eight for a matchup against Oklahoma.

No. 10 seed Kent State scored a 78-73 overtime victory against Pittsburgh to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 21 games. Trevor Huffman's runner in the last minute of play sealed the win for Kent State and propelled them to a matchup against Indiana in the Elite Eight. Future NFL star Antonio Gates was 7-of-11 with 22 points, while Huffman managed 17 even as he carried four fouls.
